Homemade Conibear Stand/stabilizer

This is a homemade conibear stand/stabilizer that I make from scrap plywood and small pieces of board.

I use different types of coni stabilizers, but this is the one that I have found to be the most versitile for where I trap.
In the winter I set up mink cubbies with 110's and 120's along brooks with rock banks, with this holder I can just set the trap and slide it into the mouth of the cubby. And they work good in culverts.
I also use these for 330's beaver trapping when the beaver channels have hard bottoms, and beaver channels with murky, muddy water that you can't see into. I just clamp the trap onto one of these and lower it to the bottom.

I make the base 5 x 10 inches, from scraps of 1/4 or 3/8 plywood.
I cut pc #2 from a piece of solid board so it don't fall all apart when cutting it. pc #2 has to be cut 2 ways, once for the thickness of the jaws. And once for the distance between the jaws when the trap is set.
Pc #3 is just a narrow piece of plywood an inch or so wide that extends over the top of the jaw bars to help keep the trap upright.
A piece of tie wire is needed obviously to keep the stabilizer from floating away.
Painting is optional, but will make them last longer. I don't worry about it though because being free makes them semi-disposible.
Even though I make them out of plywood, I have some that are into their 6th or 7th season

Nice work ...kind of bulky though to run alot of them. Have you tried sharpening the ends of the stakes that go into thr rocky creek bottom

No, I'm sorry.  I didn't.  Hopefully someone else did.
